Communications plays a key role in realizing the mission and vision of The Bronx Defenders. The success of this position will include positive outcomes for our clients, improved policies and practices for our communities, support for our work and innovation, and the engagement of key stakeholders. This person will thrive in a complex and fast-moving environment that requires deep collaboration, the centering of clients, impeccable judgment, and the ability to problem solve under pressure.

 
The Director of Communications will:
  • Develop, execute, and measure the performance of tailored strategies for each distribution channel (with a primary focus on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Email)
  • Work with practices, policy and strategic partnership teams to guide and amplify the organization’s messaging across various issues and positions
  • Work to identify and produce compelling content to amplify the voices and experiences of our clients and community members
  • Oversee external facing products and messaging to ensure alignment with organizational views and values
  • Work closely with other practices to design and implement communications components of issue-specific advocacy, impact litigation, campaigns, lobbying, and development
  • Anticipate, strategize around, and manage crisis communications around high-profile cases
  • Supervise and mentor communications staff
  • Help build the capacity and confidence of staff to engage and participate in communications
  • Oversee the organization’s digital communications and platforms, including its website, social media accounts, and email blasts
